Gillian Guthrie is a personal counsellor and Lifeline crisis supporter with a special interest in the challenges of coping with change as we age.
So often, the trickiest transitions come in the second half of life yet all too often, when people hit obstacles to happiness in later years, their stories go unheard – their grief, depression or anxiety dismissed as a normal part of ageing.
Gillian believes it’s never too late to address the personal dilemmas, past traumas and emotional upsets that ebb and flow throughout life. Whatever our age, we are all worthy of being heard and given time to talk through our troubles with a generous listener.
Gillian Guthrie has worked in the field of aged-care education, holds a Bachelor of Counselling from the Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP) and is a member of PACFA, the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. She is the author of Childless: Reflections on life’s longing for itself exploring women’s attitudes to life without children.
“When you listen generously to people they can hear the truth in themselves, often for the first time”
